In-training Assessment
Satisfactory In-Training Assessments will be required through Year 1 to 3 in the form of
- Annual Supervisor Report
- Work Based Assessment (WBA) in accordance with National Curriculum in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.
- Minimum for parallel pathway are
- Ten (10) Directly Observed Procedural Skills (DOPS) as below:
- Awake Bronchoscopic Intubation
- Chest Drain Insertion
- Central Venous Line Insertion
- Double Lumen Tube Insertion
- Obstetric Labour Epidural
- Manual In-Line Stabilisation (MILS) for
Endotracheal Intubation
- Paediatric Caudal Block
- Ultrasound Guided Peripheral Nerve Blocks
- Conduct of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia
(TIVA/TCI)
- Videolaryngoscopy
- Three (3) Case-based Discussions (CbD) per year.
- Log book.
Satisfactory In-Training Assessments will be a required throughout Year 4 - 6 in the form of
- Bi-annual (6-monthly) Supervisor Reports
- Bi-annual (6-monthly) In-Training Viva Assessments. A total of 6 viva sessions will be conducted:
- Four (4) in Year 4 - 5
- Two (2) in Year 6
- Work Based Assessment (WBA) in accordance with National Curriculum in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care. Minimum for parallel pathway is:
- DOPS: to achieve competency to perform without supervision the 10 DOPs as listed above
- Three (3) CbDs per year
- Log book.
Research
- As part of competency training the Trainee is required to complete a research project. It may be of any study type except case report.
- Within the first 6 months of Year 4 the trainee is required to submit a project proposal to the supervisor.
- The supervisor will check on the progress of the proposal at the beginning of Year 5.
- The project must be completed and presented as part of the requirement for completion of specialist training.
- The Trainee must submit the written research paper to the Jawatankuasa Kecil Latihan Kepakaran Parallel Pathway Bidang Anestisiologi for formal review at the end of Year 6.
